AGBOLUAJE SAHEED WON IUPAC 2019 YOUNG CHEMISTRY AWARD FOR NIGERIA-by Onike Rahaman
Nigeria is richly blessed with people with great potentials. Many could not be identified or located due to social and environmental constraints.A young student from my compound in Oyo Alaafin,an undergraduate of Ekiti State University just emerged last week as one of the two winners of global competition to become one of the two International Young Chemists in the world.
Agboluaje Saheed earlier attended Emmanuel Alayande College of Education,Oyo, where he studied Biology & Chemistry between 2012 and 2015.When he was in the College, he served as the President, Students Chemical Society of Nigeria in the year 2015 and he was during the same time the National Public Relations Officer,National Association of Oyo Students, the parent body of the Association.
While competing for the international award being sponsored by CAS and Pearson English ,Agboluaje Saheed beat several other young chemists across the globe that submitted entries in the form of report of scientific experiment conducted by them using improvised materials.
Eventually,he won the international competition not for himself alone but for Nigeria and Africa as a continent.
The young scientist carried out his experiment on -Filtering tap water or a oil/water mix through beach sound demostrates differential filteration.
Congratulations to Com. Agboluaje Saheed Alabi on his recent victory as one of the two winners of International Young Chemists in the world. The other winner from the United States emerged through joint experiment.
Agboluaje Saheed attended School of Science,Oranyan,Oyo,where he completed his Senior Secondary School Education in the year 2012.The young chemist was elected as the National President,National Association of Oyo Students(NAOS)the position he occupied between 2017 and 2018.
The young chemist needs encouragement, support and deserves our accolades.Let us all celebrate this young scientist for hoisting the Nigeria's flag in a global competition and brought honour to the country.
Once again,Congratulations!
